The Epic Ghost Camaro That Drove Around The Bosnian War

Samuel Reason - January 7th, 2020

Every military force in the world always attempts to use the most modern equipment to organize the successful completion of any task, especially when faced with the toughest conditions during cruel battles. The war in Bosnia from 1992 to 1995 is known to have been particularly rough and deadly, during this war though, one supply machine was very different than others. Mostly because it was a 2nd generation Chevrolet Camaro, nicknamed the Ghost Car.

SUVs and other heavy cars can usually only go a little over 50 miles per hour, so you can understand why someone would want to drive a Camaro during the war as it could drive much faster. Of course, you need to make some modifications to ensure that you can drive safely.

Known as The Ghost Camaro it was a project created by a Danish Special Forces operative officer by the name of Helge Meyer. He was on duty at the Rhine-Main Air Force Base when the war in Bosnia started, maybe the best part of the story is that Meyer never carried a weapon. This earned him the title of being referred to as God’s Rambo because the only weapon he used was his muscle car.

It was a stealth vehicle, there was a ram and a mine-clearing blade on the front along with a metal panel on the back instead of a rear window. Then the US Airforce provided him with steel plated windows, Kevlar panels and even paint that absorbs infra-red light. He even had heat detection, night vision and nitrous to zoom away from any enemies. Not to mention tires that could not go flat: you could compare this car to the batmobile.

Even with all this armor he could still accelerate to 200 km/h within 13 seconds and carry over 400 kilos of food or sanitary supplies. This allowed him to make the most daring missions, delivering food all around Bosnia while hiding from the police and the army. He was chased several times and even took quite a few bullets, but Meyer knew the back roads of the area extremely well and with the Ghost Camaro being invisible to radar – it was impossible to catch him.
