20 Of The Longest-Running American Sitcoms

Jeff Glennon

19. The Jeffersons

Years: 1975-1985 || Seasons: 11 || Episodes: 253
For eleven years, viewers tuned in to watch George and Louise Jefferson after they move from Queens to Manhattan. The only show on this list with a primarily African American cast, the Jeffersons was suddenly taken off the air by CBS in 1985. Most of the actors were blindsided by the announcement, with some only finding out by reading the news themselves in the paper.

Even with this premature ending, it’s still one of the longest-running shows of all time. Tyler Perry’s House of Payne actually has one more episode than The Jeffersons, but had three less seasons.
