The Lost Poems of Sappho

The Greek poet Sappho was wildly popular during the 7th century BC. In fact, she was called the greatest of the Greek poets. We will never know just how great her writing was. Today, we only have a few snippets of Sappho’s poems to study. The rest have been lost to time.

In recent years, however, two previously unknown Sappho poems surfaced and were sold to the University of Oxford by antiquity dealers, giving rise to speculation that the rest of her poems have survived through the ages and are just waiting to be discovered.
