Extremely Valuable Treasures That Are Still Lost

Leonardo da Vinci’s Lost Mural

Records exist to tell us that Leonardo da Vinci painted a mural in 1505 that showed the 1440 Battle of Anghiari between the Florence-led Italian League and Milan. The mural was prominently displayed at the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, but it went missing in 1563 when it was removed for building renovations.

It could be that the mural isn’t missing after all. In 2012, art experts claimed that another artist, Giorgio Vasari, painted his own mural overtop da Vinci’s work. These experts have not been able to definitively prove their theory.
