Squanto Learned to Speak English
In England, Squanto lived in London with a merchant and shipbuilder named John Slany. Slany had invested money in the East India Company and had hopes of earning money by establishing colonies in the New World. He was interested in the information that Squanto could provide to him about the wildlife, geography, agriculture, and indigenous people of the Americas. From Slany, Squanto learned to speak English, a skill that would prove to be beneficial to him in a few years.
