Squanto Serves as an Intermediate For the Rest of His Life
Of course, Squanto’s story doesn’t end at the conclusion of the first Thanksgiving feast. He continued to drift between two worlds…the world of his own Native American people and the world of the new, white European settlers to what is now New England. As a translator, his skills were highly sought after.
He worked to establish diplomacy among the two groups, served as a wilderness guide, and helped broker peace accords. While these sound like heroic and noble endeavors, Squanto was not always trusted or respected. His actions often put him at odds with one or both groups.
