The Ghost Ship Jenny

Samuel Reason | January 11th, 2019

Jenny is a ghost ship story that may never have heard before, but it is definitely a haunted tale that you may want to learn and read up about. The vessel called Jenny was found completely frozen in the Drake Passage in 1840, which is almost 20 years after it disappeared.

The part that makes this story extremely scary is the last journal entry that was found on the ship with the captain:

May 4, 1823. No food for 71 days. I am the only one left alive.

The captain was actually found sitting in his chair completely frozen, with his pen still in hand. And funnily enough, or maybe you could say ironically, the whaling ship that discovered the doomed & haunted Jenny was called Hope. The story as told by the crew members of the whaling ship is that Jenny was hidden from the world behind a sheet of ice. And it was only when this sheet of ice broke that it was possible to find the doomed boat.

They spotted Jenny and thought everything was fine, it appeared the ship was even manned, seven crew members were standing on the deck. But alas, they then realized every member was frozen completely solid. And this is why the story of the frozen Jenny ship has turned into one of a haunted ghost tale.

Captain Brighton was the first onboard and he found crew members and the captain frozen solid, he later advised it was eery and felt haunted. Some say that they buried all the frozen members of the crew and held a funeral for the dead. Others had refuted this set of events, advising that Captain Brighton only took the captain’s journal and then fled the scene. Fearing that the haunted ship would doom them all.

One thing is for certain, the Jenny ghost ship was never seen again, so some say it is still frozen in the ice sheets to this day waiting to be liberated.
