The Viking Ring Fort, or Trelleborg
Did know that Vikings had forts? A Trelleborg is a circular fort built by Vikings. They are symmetrical, with gates pointing in the cardinal directions. There are seven known fortresses in Denmark and Sweden, built in strategic locations for the Vikings.
It’s possible that these fortresses were built by the same king, Harold Bluetooth of Denmark, as most of the seven fortresses were dated to his reign. Many artifacts were found at these forts, suggesting that women and children may have also lived around or within them as well.
