14. Dwight D. Eisenhower
As an accomplished Army general, Eisenhower won the election of 1952 by a landslide. During his first term, he successfully negotiated a truce that brought an end to the Korean war that had started two years before he was elected.
In 1956, he was re-elected to a second term. He spent the bulk of his presidency trying to ease tensions caused by the Cold War. He also sent troops to Arkansas to enforce the newly passed laws to desegregate schools.
