You Probably Use Most Of These Things Every Day, and They Wouldn’t Exist Without NASA

Home Insulation

Ever wonder why your home stays warm in the colder months? Yes, it can be your heating system. But that’s only one of the reasons. The other is the insulation that sits in your attic. NASA developed an aluminized polyester known as Radiant Barrier used to protect astronauts from the extreme temperatures of space. Of course, there are other types of insulation like the pink, fluffy kind that you see sometimes. Yet, we won’t be surprised if NASA had a hand in developing that also.

Have A Cold One: This type of insulation lead to an invention that was designed to keep beer cold. This is known as the Keg Sheet. This was invented by complete accident when a man named Dan Gwiazdowski was planning a backyard get together. He was also watching a bike race. And one part of the route happened to be in his neighborhood. He had beer keg stored in his garage and did not want it to get warm. Using an emergency blanket that was stored in a first aid kit, Dan managed to cover the keg as best he could.

Later the next day, the beer was still cold. It was then that Dan and his friends knew they had a thing on their hands. Something that would keep a beer keg cold for longer periods of time.
