Panxian Cave
Archaeologists have long known that the Panxian Dadong Caves in China were used by ancient people as far back as 300,000 years ago. The cave would have been ideal for humans as it was high…more than 5,000 feet above sea level. But they were surprised to find the bones of many large animals, including rhinoceros and stegodons, in the cave.
There is no way that these massive animals made the trek up to the cave so humans must have brought the animals to the cave. The fact that some of the bones have cut marks on them from stone tools supports the idea that the animals were hunted by early humans. But how did they manage to get their kills up to the cave?
